Build a common future for wild horses and nomads

files/picturebar/36.jpgThere’s a special relationship between Mongols and their wild horses. The Mongolian word for them is “takhi” – which means holy.

Extinct in the wild, the Takhi was reintroduced in the Great Gobi B (a former habitat) in 1992. The actual development of the population is very positive. It seems that the wild horse feels well back at its origin habitat.

The focus of the project is the habitat of the wildhorses. Great Gobi B is an important cattle land for nomads since centurys. But mining, poaching and the excessive use of several plants sets the Strictly Protected Area Great Gobi B under pressure.

ITG – together with locals and the Mongolian environmental ministry – trains rangers to protect the habitat. We also build schools and for the support of the nomads we preserve sustainable energy use and alternative ways to generate money among cattling. Read more ...

International Takhi Group

The International Takhi Group (ITG) saves the reintroduction of the wild horse in Mongolia and helps to protect their habitat for people, animals and plants. The aim is a broad and science-based protection of the Great Gobi B with its 10'000 km2 area. Read more ...

"Friends of the wildhorse" is an association under swiss law. It gives financial support to the Takhi-project and is applicable for its success. Read more ...
