Welcome to the Homepage of the International Takhi-Group [ITG]

The ITG is the umbrella organization of all institutions participating in the reintroduction of takhis in Mongolia. The ITG is officially registered in Switzerland as a non-profit organization. All members of the ITG are incorporated as non-profit organizations in their mother country.

Since 1970, the ancestor of our domestic horses - the Przewalski's horse - was considered extinct in the wild. With captive breeding and a reintroduction programs, the ITG attempts to resettle these horses in their original habitat.

Our ambitions are

  • the reintroduction of the Przewalski's horse in Mongolia,
  • a close collaboration with the native population and the Mongolian government,
  • an ecological and economical sustainability of the Great Gobi B strictly protected area.

We collaborate with

  • the Mongolian Ministry of Environment
  • EEP (European Endangered Species program)
  • SSPs (Species Survival Program, USA)
  • IUCN Equid specialist group (International Union for the Conservation of Nature)
  • Mongolian Commission for the Conservation of Rare Animals

Save a takhi and thus a part of the history of evolution!

The society „Friends of the Takhi's" is closely associated with the "International Takhi Group", which is working with plenty of idealism and knowledge on reintroducing the Przewalski's horse in its native habitat in Mongolia. The global aim of "Friends of the Takhi" is the assistance of the reintroduction program by any means necessary and to provide long term financial support for the project. The monetary funds of the society are used for transports, veterinary care and the final release of the animals into the wide spaces of the Mongolian highlands.

Become a member of (the society of) „Friends of the takhi Takhi"...
... and help us securing the survival of the takhis in their natural habitat.
